Just a minute on a post-lockdown world
Today on Radio 2, Jeremy Vine kindly gave me just a minute to tell him what I want to see in a post-Covid world.
Easy. I want the new normal to be like the old normal – with a bit more caring & sharing. That’s it. I’m all zoomed out. I’ve had enough ferlough Merlot & Quarantinies to last a lifetime. I’ve loved the quiet skies & the birdsong, but now I’m wanting the hustle & bustle again – & haircuts & hugs & the theatres open by Christmas. We need panto - oh yes we do! It’s community theatre & we need community. People need people – that’s what this lockdown experience has taught us.
Oh, yes, and people need poetry, too. I’ve been learning poems by heart during lockdown - just two lines a day on my daily walk to keep the little grey cells active. More poetry & less news - that’s what’s wanted.
Too much news isn’t good for you - gets you down. Post-Covid I want less news & less never-ending “analysis” – everyone knocking everyone else non-stop when nobody really knows anything.
I’m on a low carb diet & a low news diet & feeling better for both. After lockdown let’s eat less, care more, share more, talk more, walk more - and get on our bikes. It’s the great Olivia de Havilland’s 104th birthday today - she rides a tricycle. At 104. Because of her I’ve bought one, too.
Poop poop!
That’s my 60 seconds up.
